How can building a culture of openness at your institution help to increase opportunity and access to education? This free webinar will offer participants access to key resources and professional learning to support them in advancing a collaborative, creative, and connective learning experience to students at HBCUs and beyond through the unique affordances of open educational practices.

About This Project
This celebratory webinar commemorates the launch of a series of free and open professional learning opportunities for educators at HBCUs as well as their allies and colleagues. Through the support of The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, as well as the leadership of Tennessee State University, MERLOT, and SkillsCommons, this grant-funded project brings the HBCU community a series of open playbooks and fully-online open courses on five key topics related to building an opened culture:

Foundations of Open Culture
How does fostering an opened culture enhance inclusivity and representation in teaching and learning?

Open Culture and Course Design
How can curriculum design reflect and affirm your students’ identities and experiences?

Fundamentals of Open Remix
How does collaborative remix help educators build culturally relevant, inclusive, and innovative learning communities?

Digital Literacies and Open Culture
How do digital literacies equip educators and students to sustain an open culture?

Leading Change: Sustaining Open Culture
How can leaders sustain and scale openness within their institutions?
Outcomes
At the conclusion of the webinar, participants will be able to :
- Explore and contribute to a series of open playbooks, sharing their ideas and exemplars as cited contributors
- Register for one of four free webinars on different aspects of building a culture of openness
- Join an online community of practice built in D2L Brightspace offering ways to connect with other open ed practitioners at HBCUs
- Collaborate with colleagues to share insights and best practices for integrating open education principles at their institution
Participation at the live session is encouraged, but all registered attendees can also watch back live content asynchronously. Additionally, at the conclusion of the webinar, participants will gain access to a series of open learning modules built in D2L Brightspace.
