25 Feb AI Literacies for Educators—A Webinar for Practitioners and Leaders (March 28, 2025)
WEBINAR
An Exploration of AI Literacies for National AI Literacy Day
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming education, presenting both opportunities and challenges for educators who strive to prepare students for an AI-driven world. As technology advances, understanding and applying AI literacies becomes essential for fostering inclusive, future-ready learning environments.
On March 28, 2025, Opened Culture hosted the webinar "AI Literacies for Educators" in celebration of National AI Literacy Day. This interactive session, led by Dr. Angela Gunder of Opened Culture and Dr. Doug Belshaw of We Are Open, introduced educators to the multifaceted concept of "AI Literacies," emphasizing a spectrum of competencies, skills, and mindsets essential for navigating the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.

About the Webinar
The AI Literacies for Educators webinar explored how educators can develop and implement a nuanced approach to AI literacies in their teaching practices. The session highlighted the importance of moving beyond basic technical skills to a more holistic understanding of AI literacies, encompassing both skillsets and mindsets. Participants learned how to integrate AI literacies in diverse educational settings, with practical strategies to foster critical, creative, and civic engagement. The session also introduced a new open course, AI Literacies Unlocked, hosted on D2L Brightspace, with a warm invitation for educators to join an open community dedicated to advancing AI literacies practices.
Featuring findings from a commissioned research study by UNESCO IITE and Shanghai Open University, the webinar provides a foundational understanding of AI literacies, emphasizing their critical role in education today. The conversation also provides educators with insights from Dr. Punya Mishra and Dr. Ian O’Byrne on how they are seeing a plurality of AI literacies appear in global education, and what the field should do to better reposition AI within education.
